Overview
Imperial history by day, a top-tier executive physical in between.
Beijing is home to many of China's most prestigious hospitals, which makes it the natural choice for a thorough, imaging-led physical. This route puts the checkup on your first full day, then spends the rest of the trip on the city's headline sights while your results come back.
It suits travellers who want both a serious medical baseline and a classic first look at China: the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the hutong neighbourhoods, at an unhurried pace.
This route is ideal for
- First- or second-time visitors who want China's headline sights
- Executives who want a thorough, one-stop annual physical
- Travellers who want advanced imaging (MRI, low-dose CT, optional PET-CT) without a long wait
- Anyone with a family history of heart disease or cancer who wants a deeper screen than a routine physical

Travel
What you’ll see
Forbidden City & Jingshan Park
The world's largest surviving palace complex, home to 24 Ming and Qing emperors. Finish on Jingshan hill for the classic view across its golden rooftops.
Tip: Tickets are timed and passport-linked — we book them as soon as your dates are set. Closed on Mondays except public holidays.
Great Wall at Mutianyu
A restored, tree-lined section with watchtowers every few hundred metres, about 1.5 hours from central Beijing and far less crowded than Badaling.
Tip: Take the cable car up and the toboggan or cable car down — no steep climbing needed.
Hutongs & Shichahai
Grey-brick courtyard alleys around the Houhai lakes, with the Drum and Bell Towers at one end. Best explored on foot or by rickshaw.
Tip: Late afternoon light is beautiful, and the lakeside comes alive at dusk.
Temple of Heaven
The Ming-dynasty altar where emperors prayed for good harvests. The surrounding park is where locals practise tai chi, sing and play cards.
Tip: Go before 9am to see the park's morning exercise culture.
Hospitals
Where the checkup happens
Peking Union Medical College Hospital — International Medical Department 北京协和医院国际医疗部
Public Class A tertiary teaching hospital · Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences
Founded in 1921 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, PUMC is widely regarded as China's leading general hospital and is known for handling complex, hard-to-diagnose cases. Its International Medical Department provides a dedicated service for foreign and VIP patients.
We use it for
- Premium physicals with multi-specialty review
- Patients with complex existing conditions
- Follow-up specialist referral within the same hospital
Beijing United Family Hospital 北京和睦家医院
Private international hospital · JCI-accredited
A private hospital network created for the international community in Beijing, with a Western-style workflow, English-first service and a strong preventive-medicine department.
We use it for
- Travellers who prefer a Western-style, private-hospital experience
- Shorter waits and flexible scheduling
- Family members needing paediatric or women's health checks
The hospital is confirmed based on your checkup tier, dates and availability. An English-speaking coordinator accompanies you throughout.

Practical tips
Before you go
- Book the checkup for the morning after you land — fasting is easier before jet lag fully sets in.
- The Forbidden City requires advance, passport-linked tickets and is closed on Mondays (except public holidays).
- Avoid China's Golden Week (1–7 October) when sights are at their busiest.
- Bring previous reports and a medication list — the physician compares against your history.
FAQ
Beijing checkup tour — answered.
- How soon can I do the checkup after landing in Beijing?
- Usually the next morning. You need an overnight fast (typically 8–12 hours), so most travellers rest on Day 1 and test on Day 2.
- Will the Great Wall be too strenuous after a checkup?
- No — Mutianyu has a cable car and the itinerary puts the Wall two days after testing. If you have sedated endoscopy, we keep the following day light.
- Which hospital should I choose?
- PUMC suits travellers who want the depth of a top public teaching hospital or have complex existing conditions. Beijing United Family suits those who prefer a private, Western-style experience. Your coordinator recommends one based on your history.
- Will my results be ready before I fly home?
- Most lab, ECG, ultrasound and imaging results are ready within the trip, which is why every itinerary schedules the checkup early and the results consultation near the end. Biopsy pathology or genetic tests can take longer; those reports are emailed and reviewed by video call.
- How much does a checkup tour cost?
- The checkup is priced by tier (see the tier pricing on our health checkup guide); travel, hotels and guides depend on dates and comfort level. Send us your dates and we'll reply with an itemised quote.
- Can I change the itinerary or the checkup tier?
- Yes. Every route is a template. You can upgrade or downgrade the checkup tier, add days, or combine two routes — for example Beijing + Xi'an, or Shanghai + Hangzhou.
- What visa do I need?
- That depends on your nationality and how long you stay. Many travellers now qualify for visa-free entry or transit; check our visa guide or ask your coordinator before booking flights.
- Is there an English-speaking coordinator?
- Yes. A coordinator handles hospital registration, accompanies you on checkup day, translates during consultations and arranges transfers.
- What if the checkup finds something?
- The physician explains the finding and what it means. If further tests or treatment are needed, we can arrange them in China during your trip, or prepare an English summary for your doctor at home.
