Overview

A family-friendly trip: pandas for the kids, a physical and TCM wellness for the adults.

Chengdu is laid-back, food-obsessed and home to the giant pandas — a city that works for every generation. This route is designed for families: the adults complete a physical at a major teaching hospital while the itinerary keeps everyone else entertained.

After the checkup, a TCM physician designs a short course of restorative therapies such as acupuncture, tuina massage and moxibustion, scheduled around the sightseeing.

This route is ideal for

  • Multi-generation families where parents or grandparents need a checkup
  • Travellers aged 40+ who want a physical plus restorative TCM therapies
  • People with back, neck or joint tension who want to try acupuncture or tuina
  • Food lovers — Chengdu is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy

Practical tips

Before you go

  • The panda base is busiest from mid-morning; arriving at opening time is worth the early start.
  • Tell us about any children's needs — we plan the adults' testing so someone is always with the kids.
  • Sichuan food can be very spicy; ask for 微辣 (mild) or 不辣 (not spicy), or let your guide order.

FAQ

Chengdu checkup tour — answered.

Can children get a checkup too?
This route is designed around adult checkups. Paediatric check-ups can be arranged separately if needed — see our paediatric care page.
Is Sichuan food OK after a checkup?
Yes, unless you've had endoscopy or biopsies, in which case the physician may advise a mild diet for a day or two. Every restaurant on the itinerary has non-spicy options.
Is acupuncture safe if I take blood thinners?
Tell the TCM physician about all your medications. Acupuncture and cupping may be adjusted or avoided if you take anticoagulants.
Will my results be ready before I fly home?
Most lab, ECG, ultrasound and imaging results are ready within the trip, which is why every itinerary schedules the checkup early and the results consultation near the end. Biopsy pathology or genetic tests can take longer; those reports are emailed and reviewed by video call.
How much does a checkup tour cost?
The checkup is priced by tier (see the tier pricing on our health checkup guide); travel, hotels and guides depend on dates and comfort level. Send us your dates and we'll reply with an itemised quote.
Can I change the itinerary or the checkup tier?
Yes. Every route is a template. You can upgrade or downgrade the checkup tier, add days, or combine two routes — for example Beijing + Xi'an, or Shanghai + Hangzhou.
What visa do I need?
That depends on your nationality and how long you stay. Many travellers now qualify for visa-free entry or transit; check our visa guide or ask your coordinator before booking flights.
Is there an English-speaking coordinator?
Yes. A coordinator handles hospital registration, accompanies you on checkup day, translates during consultations and arranges transfers.
What if the checkup finds something?
The physician explains the finding and what it means. If further tests or treatment are needed, we can arrange them in China during your trip, or prepare an English summary for your doctor at home.
