FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
- Why China for dermatology?
- Class A specialty dermatology hospitals (Shanghai Skin, Huashan, Southern Medical) operate the largest patient volumes globally for many skin conditions. NMPA-approved biologics for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (adalimumab, secukinumab, ixekizumab, dupilumab, upadacitinib, tildrakizumab) are listed at 40–60% below US prices. Mohs micrographic surgery is available at top centres. Diagnostic dermatopathology is reference-grade.
- What does a full-body skin cancer screening include?
- Standard same-day workup: detailed history including UV exposure, family history, biopsy history; total-body photography (often with AI-assisted lesion mapping); systematic dermoscopy of suspicious lesions with image capture; biopsy of any indicated lesion with bilingual histology returned in 5–7 days; bilingual final report with mapped lesion catalogue and follow-up recommendations.
- Can I start a biologic in China and continue at home?
- Yes — and this is a common workflow. Pre-biologic workup: TB screen (IGRA / chest X-ray), hepatitis B/C panel, baseline labs, vaccination status review. First or first-few doses administered or supervised in China; subsequent doses self-administered or via home dermatology team. We provide bilingual prescription, vial-handling guidance, and home-team handover. Long-term continuity depends on home-country approval and reimbursement of the chosen biologic.
- Is Mohs surgery actually available in China?
- Yes, at a small number of academic centres including PUMC, Huashan, Beijing Friendship and Shanghai Skin. Mohs frozen-section pathology turnaround at these centres is comparable to Western Mohs surgery centres. Indicative all-in cost $1,800–$4,500 vs $4,500–$12,000 in the US. We confirm Mohs availability and surgeon credentialing for your specific case before booking.
- What about acne and rosacea?
- Standard pathway: dermatology consult + assessment; topical (retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, ivermectin); systemic (doxycycline, isotretinoin/Accutane); device-based (laser, IPL/BBL); biologic (limited indication). NMPA-listed isotretinoin is widely available and substantially cheaper than US generic. Bilingual treatment plan handed off to home dermatologist for continuation. Pregnancy prevention counselling per iPLEDGE-equivalent local protocol.
- What about TCM and aesthetic dermatology?
- TCM is offered adjunctively for chronic eczema, urticaria, vitiligo and acne — with explicit drug-interaction screening. Aesthetic dermatology (laser, BBL, fractional CO2, Botox, fillers) is widely available at Class I medical aesthetic licensed centres; we recommend insisting on physician-administered care at hospital-grade aesthetic clinics rather than beauty salons. Confirm device authenticity and physician licensure before any aesthetic intervention.
