FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
- Do I need an M-visa as a Russian citizen?
- Yes — for inpatient or surgical care in mainland China, Russian citizens require an M (medical) visa. Apply via Chinese consulate-general Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok or Khabarovsk; standard processing 4–6 business days. Russia and China have visa-free arrangements for limited tour groups but not for medical care. We provide hospital invitation letter and support the application. Companion / spouse visa is M-visa with relationship documentation.
- Какие города принимают международных пациентов? / Which cities accept international patients?
- Top destinations: Beijing (北京) — flagship cluster with PUMC, Fuwai, Tiantan; Shanghai (上海) — Zhongshan, Ruijin, Fudan Cancer; Harbin (哈尔滨) — closest Chinese hub for Far East patients (Vladivostok / Khabarovsk), with Russian-speaking medical coordinators at flagship centres; Guangzhou (广州) — southern gateway from Moscow direct flights via Hong Kong. Many Class A centres have Russian-speaking coordination and large historical Russian patient volumes.
- What about flight options from Russia?
- Direct flights: SVO / DME / VKO ↔ PEK (Air China, Aeroflot historically); SVO ↔ PVG (Aeroflot, China Eastern); LED ↔ PEK (Air China, Aeroflot historically); VVO ↔ PEK / PVG / HRB (S7, Hainan); KHV ↔ HRB (frequent regional flights). Typical 8–9 hours from Moscow, 1.5–2 hours from Vladivostok / Khabarovsk. Connections via Beijing or Shanghai for cities not direct.
- Will my Russian insurance reimburse?
- Most Russian domestic VHI policies don't cover elective treatment abroad. International expat-grade policies (RESO-Garantia VIP International, AlfaStrakhovanie International, IngoStrakh International, Bupa Global, Cigna Global) typically do reimburse. Confirm in writing before travel. For self-pay patients, Chinese hospitals accept USD or RUB at current FX; we provide bilingual itemized receipts in Russian for tax or insurance purposes.
- What about prescriptions and bringing Russian medication?
- Personal-use prescription medication is allowed in reasonable quantity (typically up to 90 days' supply) with original Russian prescription. Strictly controlled substances (опиоиды, бензодиазепины) require a bilingual physician letter. Many Russian-prescribed agents (especially generics) are also NMPA-approved at lower cost in China; consolidating prescription supply during your visit may be more economical for chronic disease management. Always carry medication in original labelled bottles.
- What about Chinese-Russian regulatory considerations for trial participation?
- China's NMPA aligns with ICH-GCP (since 2017) and many Chinese clinical trials are multi-regional (with US, EU, Japan, Russia partner sites). Russian patients may be eligible for trial enrolment in mainland China with the same eligibility criteria as Chinese patients — see [Clinical Trials in China](/clinical-trials-china). Long-term post-trial drug continuity to Russia depends on FSI / Roszdravnadzor approval; we identify regulatory pathways case-by-case.
