(2) Classical TCM diagnosis (pattern differentiation, 辨证论治) requires in-person pulse and tongue diagnosis — formula selection follows from pattern, not symptom alone. (3) Hospital integrative departments coordinate herb-drug interaction screening with Western pharmacy, critical if you are on prescription medication.
- Where is the evidence base credible?
- Acupuncture: moderate evidence for chronic low-back pain, knee osteoarthritis, tension and migraine headaches, chemotherapy-related nausea, post-operative nausea, and (with smaller effect) chronic insomnia and menopausal hot flashes. Herbal formulas: best evidence for suanzaoren-tang for insomnia, certain formulas for functional GI disorders.
