Frequently asked

Plain-language answers about skin cancer risk, this screener, and what evaluation costs at a Class A hospital in China.

What is the ABCDE rule for melanoma?
A — Asymmetry (one half doesn't match the other). B — Border (irregular, scalloped). C — Colour (varied within the lesion). D — Diameter (over 6 mm, though early melanomas can be smaller). E — Evolution (changing in size, shape, colour, or symptoms). Any of these warrants dermatology evaluation.
What does a full-body skin exam cost in China?
Total-body dermoscopy + dermatology consult at a Class A international department typically costs $90–160. Adding digital mole-mapping for high-risk patients is $260–400. Biopsy + pathology is $80–180 per lesion.
Should everyone get annual skin checks?
Risk-stratified rather than universal. AAD recommends annual full-body exams for high-risk patients (personal or family history of melanoma, multiple atypical moles, fair skin with significant sun exposure, immunosuppression). Lower-risk individuals can adopt monthly self-checks plus dermatologist visits as concerns arise.
