Frequently asked

Plain-language answers about anxiety, this screener, and what evaluation costs at a Class A hospital in China.

What does a GAD-7 score mean?
0–4 minimal, 5–9 mild, 10–14 moderate, 15–21 severe. A score of 10 or higher has good sensitivity for generalised anxiety disorder and warrants clinical evaluation.
Can the GAD-7 detect panic disorder or PTSD?
It was originally validated for GAD but performs reasonably well as a non-specific anxiety screener for panic disorder, social anxiety and PTSD. A positive screen warrants a structured clinical interview to identify the specific condition.
Are anxiety treatments available at Class A hospitals in China?
Yes. SSRIs, SNRIs and short-course benzodiazepines are widely available. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is offered at major academic psychiatry departments, increasingly with English-speaking clinicians.
