Question 1

Educational tool — not a diagnosis. STOP-Bang questionnaire, Chung et al. 2008. Validated against polysomnography in surgical and general populations.

Frequently asked

Plain-language answers about sleep apnoea, this screener, and what evaluation costs at a Class A hospital in China.

What does my STOP-Bang score mean?
0–2 low risk, 3–4 intermediate, 5–8 high risk for moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnoea. The instrument has high sensitivity — most patients with apnoea will score 3 or above.
What does sleep apnoea testing cost in China?
An in-lab polysomnography at a Class A sleep centre is typically $260–420, vs $1,500–3,000 in the US. Home sleep apnoea tests start at $80–150.
Can sleep apnoea be treated without CPAP?
Yes for some patients. Mandibular advancement devices, positional therapy, weight loss, and (selected cases) maxillomandibular surgery all have evidence. CPAP remains first-line for moderate-to-severe disease.
