Overview

Obesity affects roughly 1 billion adults globally per WHO 2024 estimates. Treatment has been transformed by GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide) over the last 5 years, alongside the long-established surgical options (sleeve gastrectomy, RYGB, SADI). The price differential between US private pay and Chinese Class A international departments is among the largest of any condition area we serve.

The right treatment depends on BMI band, comorbidities, and prior treatment history. Most patients with BMI 30–35 without significant comorbidity benefit first from medication; BMI ≥ 35 with comorbidity or BMI ≥ 40 has the strongest evidence for bariatric surgery.
