Question 1

Over the past 6 months: How do you rate your confidence that you could get and keep an erection?

Educational tool — not a diagnosis. Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM), Cappelleri & Rosen 1998 — abbreviated from IIEF-15. Validated in clinical practice and trials.

Frequently asked

Plain-language answers about erectile function, this screener, and what evaluation costs at a Class A hospital in China.

What is a normal SHIM score?
22–25 indicates no ED, 17–21 mild, 12–16 mild-to-moderate, 8–11 moderate, 1–7 severe ED. Lower scores indicate worse function.
Is ED a sign of underlying disease?
Often yes. ED frequently precedes cardiovascular events by 3–5 years. A workup should include cardiovascular risk assessment, fasting glucose, testosterone and lipid panel.
What treatments are available in China?
PDE5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) are widely available at Class A urology departments at substantially lower cost than the US/EU. Penile injection therapy and surgical implants are available at academic centres.
