Question 1

Frequently asked

Plain-language answers about cognitive concerns, this screener, and what evaluation costs at a Class A hospital in China.

What does an AD8 score of 2 or more mean?
AD8 ≥2 has good sensitivity for early dementia and warrants comprehensive cognitive evaluation. It is a screener, not a diagnosis — evaluation typically includes clinical interview, MoCA / MMSE, structural imaging, and reversible-cause workup.
What's the China dementia workup like?
Class A neurology departments offer comprehensive workup: clinical assessment + MoCA + brain MRI + reversible-cause labs (TSH, B12, folate, syphilis, HIV) — typically $400–700 all-in. Adding amyloid-PET, FDG-PET, or CSF biomarkers significantly extends.
Is oligomannate (GV-971) really only available in China?
Yes. Oligomannate received NMPA approval in China in 2019 for mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's; it is not approved by FDA or EMA. International patients seeking it require evaluation at a Class A neurology centre.
